Biological Safety Cabinet Certification

Biological Safety Cabinets, or BSCs, are designed to provide personnel, environmental and product protection when appropriate practices and procedures are followed for handling biological materials.

In order to provide these protections your BSC requires annual certification by an NSF certified technician. Environmental Health and Safety provides for this annual certification via a contract vendor. Many BSCs on campus are scheduled for automatic renewal in the month of expiration.

If your BSC is overdue for certification, please complete the form below to request a certification visit.  Please allow up to 3 weeks for service. Much of this information can be found on the current certification sticker affixed to the BSC.

Note: if the BSC needs repairs, relocation, or is being retired, a professional decontamination must be completed before the unit can be repaired or relocated/retired. These services are not covered by the contract for certification. Please contact Biosafety@ehs.utah.edu for assistance. Please allow a lead time of 3 to 4 weeks for completion.
